Welcome to the Westminster Baseball Association

Our Program

The purpose of the Westminster Baseball Association (WBA) is to operate a sound baseball program for boys and girls in Carroll County.  Westminster Baseball Association is an "All VOLUNTEER" organization which is essential in order to maintain a quality program while keeping participation fees affordable. Our past and present volunteers have put in countless hours and hard work to make your son's/daughter's playing experience enjoyable.  We are also proud members of and are sponsored by the Carroll County Recreation and Parks.

Mission Statement

Westminster Baseball Association aspires to be an outstanding educational-athletic organization that endeavors to provide a high-quality experience to every participant.  Using the sport of baseball as an instrument, our goal is to help all the young players develop positive character traits and values that will aid success in the rest of their lives.  Working with parents to provide a proper environment for learning the game of baseball, the WBA program also strives to assist in developing the qualities of citizenship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being by advocating the virtues of character, courage, sportsmanship, and loyalty.

We are committed to creating a culture in which every coach, parent, fan, umpire and player work together to achieve our collective baseball and community mission.

Approved Bats

There are changes being made for bat rules coming in the spring of 2018.  WBA has reviewed information from different groups and leagues in regards to the changes.  The purpose of the new guidelines is to standardize the performance of all bats in the younger age groups, much like the BBCOR standards that were put in place a few years ago in the older age groups. The new guidelines will make most bats in circulation today ineligible for play in any league or tournament that adopts the new standards beginning with the 2018 spring season.

Because these new guidelines are in no way related to safety issues, and because of the cost of many of these bats, WBA will not adopt the new guidelines until the 2019 spring season. That way, bats that have already been purchased can be utilized for the upcoming 2018 season, as long as they are within the guidelines listed below per league, and parents will have an extra year to purchase a new bat within the new standards. To be clear, if this were a safety issue, WBA along with many other groups, would make the change immediately but given that it is not related to safety, we see no reason to eliminate the bats that are already in use requiring the purchase of new bats at this time.

Below is what will be in place for the 2018 season.  Please keep in mind that if anyone is going to purchase a new bat for the spring, look for the bats with the new USAA approved sticker as they will be the bats that will only be allowed in 2019.

T-Ball

Bats that are labeled as T-Ball bats

7-10 (Instructional and Minors)

Bats 2 ¼ in diameter with the 1.15 SPF label for the 2018 season.  After 2018 only bats with the approved USAA label will be allowed up to the same barrel size.

11-12 (Majors)

Bats up to 2 5/8 in diameter with the 1.15 SPF label for the 2018 season. After 2018 only bats with the approved USAA label will be allowed up to the same size barrel.

13-14 (Juniors)

Bats up to 2 5/8 in diameter with the 1.15 SPF label for the 2018 season. After 2018 only bats with the approved USAA label will be allowed up to the same size barrel.

15-18 (Seniors)

Bats that are labeled at BBCOR bats only.  These are bats that are approved for High School baseball.  These are not affected by the new bat rules.

****Please note if purchasing any new bats for the fall or for next spring please consider only getting a bat that has the new USAA approved sticker as these will be the only bats approved for the fall of 2018 and into 2019.  Anyone looking at playing on one of the end of season tournament teams may also need to have only a bat with the USAA approved label but will be subject to the tournament rules per each event.
